This printer has been really good to me over the years and the last thing I really want to do is just toss it. It appears that Apple does not provide a driver for this printer so it may be due to the fact of an outdated driver. I'm a grad student and that's a nontrivial amount of money for me. The real sticking point for me is that I just put in $65 worth of new ink cartridges right before the error started.
I would buy a new printer, except that I may be moving out of the country for a long term stay by the end of this year, and I will definitely be out of this apartment in four months. If I buy the head, put it in, and it doesn't work, will I be able to resell the thing? I priced out a replacement, and it seems like the minimum I can get one for is $50. The power light flashes indicate that the printhead is the source of the error, but reseating the head doesn't do anything useful.
